Why another training log?
The big platforms turned sport into a feed. Kudos loops, segments engineered for daily re-engagement, paywalled analysis of your own heartbeats. Revontulet is the opposite bet: a quiet tool you visit when you train, that works for you and then gets out of the way.
Everything starts with your Rêve — the one dream you're training toward. A first marathon, a comeback, an Ironman, moving every day. The dashboard, goals and forecasts are all measured against it, not against strangers on a leaderboard.
Principles we won't trade
Private by default. Nothing is public unless you decide otherwise. GPS privacy zones are blurred server-side; health data never leaves your server, even on public profiles.
Self-hostable, honestly. Revontulet runs on plain PHP and MySQL — the stack of a €3/month shared host. No Kubernetes, no message queue, no cloud bill surprise. If you can run WordPress, you can run Revontulet.
Free, funded by donations. There is no premium tier and never will be. Costs are published on the donate page; contributions cover them and nothing else.
Every discipline counts
Run, bike and swim get full TCX analysis — laps, heart-rate zones, training load. Golf, strength, yoga and cardio start with manual logging, because a training life is more than three sports.
Who's behind this
Revontulet is built in the evenings by one runner-cyclist-swimmer in France, in the open. The name is Finnish for the aurora — literally "fox fires". The code, the roadmap and the dev blog are public; the beta is invitation-only while the foundations settle.
